Overview
The purpose of the Diploma in Information Technology is to provide students with a wide spectrum of study covering the breadth of Information Technology.
The diploma has been structured in such a way as to allow students to choose from an elective in one of three possible areas within the IT industry. The curriculum has been designed with specific outcomes in mind and is aimed at developing both generic and specific vocational skills required within each elective.
Admission Requirements
- A National Senior Certificate with an endorsement for admission to a Diploma and/or
Degree; or - A National Certificate Vocational (NCV) at NQF Level 4 with appropriate subject
combination and levels of achievements; or - Mature Age Exemption for students above the age of 23 as set out in the Higher Education Regulations; or
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Outcomes
BSc graduates, in at least one science discipline, can:
- Design software solutions to address industry-related IT problems.
- Utilise the required technical skills to effectively implement the designed solutions in an IT environment.
- Utilise the required technical skill to design and implement solutions in data communications, networks and the internet environment.
- Demonstrate the effective utilisation of business and management skills to bridge the gap between the IT discipline and the business functional areas in industry.
- Use computer hardware to its full potential by understanding the technical operation of hardware and how to control it on a low level.
- Provide IT support services in a given business sector.
